Description

Mountain Quarries Engine #202 at the Carson City Airport. Engine #202 came from Mountain Quarries Railroad in California and bounced around between owners during the 20th century. In the 1960s a group of railfans tried to revive the Virginia and Truckee Railroad by laying some track at the Carson City Airport and running Engine #202 with V&T Flatcar #57. This effort didn't last long. Later, in 1976, Engine #202 was the first locomotive on the actual rebuilt V&T in Virginia City. But it didn't have enough power for their needs so it was replaced the next year.

Source Caption: Most of his model railroad was already sold off, but his slides remained undiscovered until I found them. Many were from right after the Burlington Northern merger. One group was a July 1967 trip to photograph remnants of the Virginia & Truckee. The pictures are taken near an airport but where? The majority were from Carson City and Virginia City, with a couple from Reno and some further out. Thoughts? https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,5126052
